ABOUT GRANTMAKING
Who can apply for a grant?
(Incorporated) units of local government or organizations federally
recognized as having 501(c)(3) status located in Allegany, Cattaraugus,
and Chautauqua County are eligible to apply.
What types of projects are funded?
Grants are made to the following areas: community and economic
development, community and organizational capacity building, planning,
and leadership development. Southern Tier West Development Foundation
seeks to invest in programs that offer the greatest opportunity
for change in the region, leverage investment of other resources
and improve the quality or scope of charitable works in the region.
Is there a deadline for grant applications?
No. Southern Tier West Development Foundation accepts grant applications
on a rolling basis.
What is the grant application process?
Local government and other eligible nonprofit organizations are
strongly encouraged to contact Southern Tier West Development
Foundation before submitting a proposal. The Project Review Committee
meets periodically to determine if grant proposals will be approved
or declined.
Who decides how the Foundation's funds
are distributed?
The professional staff and the Board review all grant applications
first. The Board is a group of highly respected community leaders
who are knowledgeable about the charitable needs of the community.
Individuals who have "Donor Advised Funds," can participate
in the grantmaking process by suggesting grants from their Fund.
Are grant decisions made public?
All grants made by the Foundation are made public through the
Foundation's publications and may be subject to additional publicity
by Southern Tier West Development Foundation.
